Patrol

Although there are several divisions within the Gainesville Police Department, the Patrol Division is the largest and the most visible. For many citizens, a member of the Patrol Division is the initial and possibly the only contact they have with the Department. As ambassadors of the Department and the City of Gainesville, the members of our Patrol Division strive to provide law enforcement services in a professional and courteous manner.

The function of the Patrol Division is to protect the lives and property of the citizens of Gainesville and maintain the public peace. Uniformed officers proactively prevent and deter crime and respond to citizens calls for service. As first responders, the preservation of life and the prevention of injury is the highest priority of the patrol officer. In addition, the patrol officer is responsible for the protections of property, maintenance of public order, prevention of crime, enforcement of laws and ordinances, and arrest of law violators.

In the event of an emergency, citizens should immediately call 911. For other inquiries or non-emergency matters, you can contact members of the Patrol Division at 940-668-7777.
