March 2010 -

Helen Wilson, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

The City of Gainesville recognizes and appreciates Helen Wilson for being consistently professional, courteous, friendly and helpful. She has gone out of her way to be helpful in the Finance Department, and plays a very important role in preparing the budget each year. She has established and maintained cooperative working relationships with all departments. she is very detail oriented which has proven to be a benefit to all departments in catching and correcting errors.


February 2010 -

Marsha Sheffield, City of Gainesville Employee Of The Month

The City of Gainesville recognizes and appreciates Marsha Sheffield for her loyalty to the City. She is a dependable employee, constantly working steadily, keeping her work current, and offering assistance to other employees in her department and other departments. She is supportive to her department, assisting with the CAFR each year, and is always professional. With over 21 years of service to the City of Gainesville, her knowledge is very valuable.


January 2010 -

Gary Schumacher, City of Gainesville Employee Of The Month

On Saturday, October 22, 2010 during a heavy rainfall, Gary worked to block off a street that was flooding due to the drainage being backed up from debris. He cleared the debris out the drainage with a shovel during the continuing rainfall to alleviate the situation.


December 2010 -

Wayne Twiner, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

In recognition and appreciation for his dedication to the citzens of the City of Gainesville. On August 8, 2010, while at a local grocery store he was approached by a citizen who was distressed because she had experienced a flat tire on her vehicle. He initiated the necessary steps in replacing the flat tire for her. The assistance he provided to this citizen exemplifies the standard of excellence that we all strive to provide to all citizens and visitors of the City of Gainesville.


November 2010 -

Melissa Sooter, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

In recognition and appreciation for her dedication to the City of Gainesville, her dependability, and excellent work ethics. She has worked and mastered three of the four animal care sections at the Zoo. She has actively sought increased responsbility through her work ethic and initiative. She has taken on and effectively managed zoo inventory. She has effectively acted as a manager on duty as needed and as assigned, and she can be relied upon to take appropriate actions and follow the chain of command when something needs to be addressed. Melissa is passionate about animal care and developing her career, and as a result has become a savvy animal trainer. She is an approachable mentor for new keepers, and has embraced changes as they have come. She has taken on several challenges as well.

September 2010 -

Richard Nichols, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

In recognition and appreciation for his dedication to the City of Gainesville, his dependability and excellent work ethics. Richard has proven to be consistent in reading water meters every month, and has done an excellent job in taking on the responsibilities of maintaining the radio read transponders, and always provides professional and courteous customer service.


August 2010 -

Jeffrey Granados, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

Jeffrey is a very dependable employee. He has been the operator of the Vac Truck since June 2009. This position requires a crew leader, but because of moves made in the department, Jeffrey has stepped up with no complaints and has done a great job in the Wastewater Collection Division. He's become an employee that can be depended upon as if was the Crew Leader and his recommendations of what needs to be done to our collection system are taken seriously.


July 2010 -

Mary Ann Pekinpaugh, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

Mary Ann provides excellent customer service internally to co-workers and externally to guests of the Frank Buck Zoo. She consistently sets a welcoming tone for all zoo visitors and rises to the occasion when faced with dealing with challenging patrons or large groups of visitors. In addition, she efficiently and effectively manages part-time zoo retail staff and merchandising of zoo retail inventory. She has truly redefined customer service at the Frank Buck Zoo.

 


June 2010 -

Jennifer Ware, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

Using a free online training source, Jennifer has designed and set up a City format for employees to complete City training online. This will enable HR to offer City employees a means to receive City training online when it is convenient for them and their department in the event they are unable to attend class training. This will be an enormous benefit to the City with the potential to eliminate overtime for employees to attend mandatory training, and gives departments an option in scheduling employees for training which has become particularly challenging during this time when so many departments are operating with fewer employees. This will also essentially eliminate "makeup" training sessions, saving HR staff and employees a substantial amount of time.


May 2010 -

Tom Hall, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

In recognition and appreciation for the planning and work he did to complete a renovation of the #1 and #6 greens at the golf course. His golf course and landscaping expertise, as well as his planning and direction to City staff allowed these renovations to be performed by staff, saving the City of Gainesville more than $25,000 for this project.


April 2010 -

Doug Anderle, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

In recognition and appreciation for his idea which saved the Fire Department a substantial amount of money and for the work performed which was far outside the scope of his regular duties as a Fire Appartus Operator.


March 2010 -

Tommy McPherson, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

In addition to effetively managing the day to day challenges and repairs of an older facility, Tommy continually works toward what will benefit the Zoo most in the future. Tommy actively works toward making the Zoo as financially efficient as possible through transplanting, plant propagation, composting, worm farming and water conservation measures. He generates ideas for new visitor attractions and is capable of doing most work without the outside aide and extra expense of contractors. He is committed to making the safest work environment possible for the Zoo staff by conducting one on one equipment training and putting projects that fall in the safety category first. Whenever inclement weather strikes, he drives to the park at all hours of the night to check creek levels and gate valves. He is committed to providing the Zoo visitor with the best surroundings possible while keeping an eye on the bottom line. His drive to consistantly improve his surroundings should be an example for all.


February 2010 -

Richard Evans, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

Richard Evans has been named as City of Gainsville's Employee of the Month for February 2010. He is recognized for his efforts to repair an 8" water main break in adverse weather conditions, in 30 degree temperatures, spending approximately two hours waist deep in water. Richard consistently goes above in beyond in the performance of his duties.


January 2010 -

Jennifer Fair, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

Jennifer Fair, Zoo Keeper, has been named as City of Gainesville Employee of the Month for January 2010. Jennifer was nominated by her supervisor, Zoo Director Susan Kleven, who described Jennifer as a professional who takes pride in her work and seizes every opportunity to gain additional experience to further broaden her skill base. Kleven said that in addition to Jennifer having an outstanding work ethic and setting a positive example for other zoo staff to follow, she is quick to lend a helping hand to co-workers to ensure area projects are completed in a timely manner. Kleven also commended Jennifer because she regularly initiates and seeks additional projects to work on during her days off, has volunteered to sew items and photograph animals for marketing purposes and assist the Zoological Society by conducting research and writing grants


December 2009 -

George Garner, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

George Garner, Golf Shop Attendant at the Gainesville Municipal Golf Course, was named Employee of the Month for the City of Gainesville for the month of December 2009. On October 1, 2009, when a fire occurred at the golf course maintenance shop, George’s quick actions kept the damage to a minimum. George’s supervisor, Golf Pro David Hersman, said that George an exceptional employee and probably the number one ambassador for the golf course; he is always very positive and vocal about the condition of the golf course to all the golfers.


November 2009 -

Tamara Sieger, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

Tamara Sieger, Administrative Assistant/Emergency Management Officer for the Fire Department, was named Employee of the Month for the City of Gainesville for the month of 2009 for researching, purchasing and installing the department's records managemet and CAD system; the implementation of the Code Red System; the training of personnel for these systems and is dedicated in her duties for the City of Gainesville.


October 2009 -

Jackie Jones, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

Jackie Jones, Garage Supervisor/Electronics Technician was named Employee of the Month for the City of Gainesville for the month of October 2009. Jackie’s supervisor, Dan Parker, said that Jackie Jones represents the consummate city employee, performing his duties with an eye on safety and within budget. Jackie is often called on by the fire and police departments when radios or electronic equipment are not working after hours, and Jackie responds. Jackie is one of the first employees to respond during storms, reporting to the garage to converse with employees in the field and keep equipment in operation, which is vital to response times. Jackie is also involved with the local Red Cross and provides CPR training to other city employees. Dan Parker described Jackie as a dedicated and devoted worker and said that he values Jackie’s work, his assistance and desire to do the mundane duties that keep a city going twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

 


September 2009 -

Johnny Harp, City of Gainesville Employee of the Month

Johnny Harp, Crew Leader in the Streets division of the Public Services Department, has received the award of Employee of the Month for the City of Gainesville for August 2009 in recognition of his dedication to the City of Gainesville and its citizens, his willingness to assist with projects in any department or division of the City, his excellent attendance and availability, and his consistently positive disposition.
