Employee Benefits Summary
The City of Gainesville provides the below described benefits to all regular employees.
This information does not guarantee any benefits or employment with the City of Gainesville. If any differences exist between this benefits summary and the plan documents or the City of Gainesville Personnel Policies and Procedures, the plan documents and / or City policies will govern administration of benefits.
Health Insurance
The City of Gainesville provides health insurance coverage for all regular full-time and part-time employees through our provider, Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Employee Benefits Pool (TML IEBP). The City pays 100% of medical coverage for employees. Coverage begins 30 days after the employee’s date of hire.
Life Insurance
The City of Gainesville provides $10,000 in life insurance for all regular full-time and part-time employees.
Optional Life Insurance
Optional Life Insurance may be purchased by the employee. The cost of this coverage is based on the age of the employee and annual salary. Optional Life Insurance may be purchased at increments of ½ the employee’s annual salary, with a maximum of up to 3 times the annual salary with a $300,000 maximum.
Holidays, Vacation and Sick Leave
Paid Holidays include New Years Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Vacation is accrued as follows:
10 days vacation per year
15 days vacation per year after 10 years of service
20 days vacation per year after 20 years of service
Sick leave is accrued at the rate of 8 hours per month. (Fire shift employees accrue at a rate of 12 hours per month.)
Retirement
The City of Gainesville participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS). Employees are automatically enrolled as a member of TMRS upon hire. Employees will have 5% deducted from each paycheck, as a pre-tax deduction. The City matches member contributions on a 1.5 to 1 basis. Employees are vested in TMRS after earning 5 years of service credit. Employees are eligible to retire when vested and at least age 60 or have 20 years of service credit at any age.
Deferred Compensation
457 Deferred Compensation plans are available to City employees through ICMA, Nationwide, and FTJ Fund Choice. Contributions to a deferred compensation plan may be made through through pre-tax payroll deduction.
Credit Union
Any city employee is eligible to join the City Credit Union or Nascoga Credit Union.
Tuition Reimbursement (Educational Assistance)
After six months of employment with the City of Gainesville, employees may request tuition reimbursement for college level courses to improve their skills, knowledge and abilities relating to their present job. For approved courses, the City will refund costs for courses after the completion of courses and up to $200 for the cost of books / semester.
Longevity Pay
Employees who have worked for the City for the entire fiscal year (Oct – September) will receive $5.00 for each month of service up to 30 years. Longevity pay is issued in a lump sum each year on the first of day of December.
