Remember Sunday nights, watching Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom on TV? The show, which premiered on January 6, 1963, took viewers to the far corners of the world and studied wild animals in their natural habitats. Host Marlin Perkins, was joined by several field |
correspondents, including subsequent hosts Jim Fowler and Peter Gros. The program let viewers see the action, but not the violence, which helped make it the favorite nature show of millions of American families.
Revisit those memories at “A Night With Wild Kingdom” as Peter Gros of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom shares live animals and entertaining stories about working with Marlon Perkins and Jim Fowler on the popular television series. See a live alligator, large python and other animals. Following the presentation stick around for refreshments. There will also be an opportunity to have a picture taken with Peter Gros and a live animal for a $5 donation to the zoo.
“We wanted to do an event that would appeal to children and their families,” says Zoo Director, Susan Kleven. Parents remember Wild Kingdom from when they were kids, today children can share the experience with the all new Wild Kingdom series that airs on Animal Planet.
The Frank Buck Zoological Society’s annual Zoobilee event held in October is the largest fundraiser the Zoo Society holds. “We are really excited about the direction the zoo is heading. We are planning several family oriented events to raise not only funds, but also raise awareness about all the great programs the zoo has to offer” says Kleven. “When I visit other zoos it makes me really proud of the Frank Buck Zoo. I just want to tell people they need to come to Gainesville and see our zoo!” says Zoological Society President Karen Estes Cook.
Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom was recognized with 41 major awards, including four Emmys and an endorsement by the National PTA for television recommended for family viewing. Tickets are available at the door $5 for adults $3 for children. Event made possible by Frank Buck Zoological Society and our community partners at Sudden Link.
