Breakfast With the Easter Bunny

Walking with the Easter Bunny
Despite the chilly weather April 7, area families enjoyed Frank Buck Zoo’s second annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny.
Children were divided into three different age groups to give everyone a fair chance to hunt the 3,000 eggs that were scattered throughout the zoo. Just minutes before the egg hunt was about to begin, the first snow flakes began to fall. "It was a lot of fun, even with the snow. We visit the zoo every week and we wouldn't have missed it" said one local family pass holder.
Eggs

Following the egg hunt, breakfast guests filed to the pavilion in Leonard Park where they were treated to a warm sausage, egg & potato dish, specially prepared using fresh ostrich eggs collected at the zoo. "One ostrich egg is the equivalent of about 20 chicken eggs." said Laurie Grahl who had served the dish to Gainesville Chamber of Commerce Members in February during the "Prairie Dog Day" observance.

Breakfast

Also on the menu were French toast “fingers”, chocolate chip pancakes, a variety of breakfast breads, mini donuts, fruit, yogurt, cheerios, apple juice, and hot chocolate or hot cider. One visitor said, "You all have really out done yourselves, this was great, thank you!"

Breakfast guests also had the opportunity to have their pictures taken with  the Easter Bunny and his furry friend “Thumper” for Easter pictures.

Lining up for the event

“We had 342 breakfast guests join us from as far away as Plano, Frisco and Lewisville.” reported Concession Manager, Lori Grahl. "Last year was our first year and we served 90 breakfast guests. We were delighted to see the event grow so much in popularity this year!

Bunny hug

We would like to thank Starbucks for the hot coffee, Miss Olivia’s for the use of the outdoor heaters, Home Depot for providing Easter color in the front garden beds, Karen Cook for photography and all of the zoo’s board members and dedicated volunteers who braved the cold to help us hold another great family friendly event for the community!" said Zoo Director, Susan Kleven.
