Transfer Station

Gainesville Waste transfer facilities processes tons of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) annually.  This facility allows the use of small collection vehicles, contractor’s, and residents to empty their MSW at this facility. Gainesville residents are allowed to dump up to two tons of waste per year free, provided that a current water bill can be shown.  For more information on this program, please call our office, General Services at (940)668-4551 or watch channel 2.

Please note that all loads including Brush must be tarped to prevent
waste/debris from littering streets.

A $25.00 fee will be charged for ALL untarped loads.

This facility does NOT ALLOW loads to be "pulled off"
with chains or cables. Please do not hook these
to the containers.


Free Resident Loads

  • The City of Gainesville will accept up to two tons per year for each residential address with active City of Gainesville water service.  Accounts will be tracked by physical addresses.  Once an address has met its limit, any additional trash during the remainder of the fiscal year must be paid for.
  • Customer should have their water bill and a current drivers' license with same address and must be present at the time of disposal. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Only household waste will be accepted. No roofing or other construction materials will be allowed for this program.
  • Customers may bring in materials on one or two dates per year.
  • Each date will count as a one ton minimum.
  • Customers may come in repeatedly on one date to reach their limit.
  • If a customer comes in on one date and brings over one and one quarter tons they will have used all the allowance for the year.
  • When customers have less than one and one quarter tons on the first date, they will have one more day up to one ton free in the remainder of the fiscal year.
  • Customer may not come in free on more than two dates per year.
  • Brush is a separate program and does not count against the Free Residential MSW Disposal Program Collection.
  • Businesses are excluded from this two-ton program.
  • Fiscal year for this program is October 1st thru September 30th.

Citizen Station

   

The Citizen Station is for residents and non-residents to off load debris from their vehicles into the containers.  If you have equipment with a hydrant lift them, you will off load into the Transfer Station.

Items not ACCEPTED by the City of Gainesville’s Transfer Facility:

  • Any Hazardous Waste or Special Waste from Health Care Related Facilities.
  • Septic Tank Pumping-Grease & Grit Trap Waste
  • Slaughter House Waste-Dead Animals
  • Pesticide, Insecticide, Herbicide, Fungicide, Rodenticid Containers
  • Discarded Materials Containing Asbestos
  • Lead Acid Storage Batteries
  • Any Internal Combustion Engine
  • Any item containing PCB’s
  • Tires larger than 16 inches.
  • Any Free Liquids not passing the paint filter test
  • Any Ash from Burning Procedure-Incinerator Ash
  • Any Bulk or Containerized Liquid Waste.
  • Used Oil & Oil Filters or Soil contaminated by Petroleum Products, Crude Oils or Chemicals.

  Recycling Center

The Recycling Center is located inside the gates of the Transfer Station.

The General Services Department also grinds up your brush and is free to the public.  Just come by our facility during normal operating hours and get as much wood mulch that you like.   This is not treated mulch but it can be used in your flower garden.
