Every owner, occupant, tenant, or lessee of any business, commercial, or institutional property not entitled to receive residential refuse collection service shall be required to have commercial solid waste collection service provided by the City of Gainesville.  The State of Texas Health and Safety Code requires putrescible (food) waste collection at least once per week.  The Commercial Solid Waste Division provides containers and roll-off service. 

Deposits are required for temporary containers.

Enclosures or Screening
Construction and maintenance of enclosure or screening is the customer’s responsibility.  These enclosures are for smaller containers, 4 cu. yd., 6 cu. yd., & 8 cu. yd.   Containers plan for new businesses are available at the General Services Department, at 601 N. I-35, or call (940)668-4551 or (940)668-4552.

Claims for damages to any enclosures caused by the Solid Waste Division will not be considered unless enclosures are built to department specifications. 

Container Weight and Volume Restrictions
Customers shall not overload containers.  Containers judged to be overweight will not be emptied.  If weight concerns or questions arise, please call General Services Department at (940)668-4551 for recommended container sizes.  

Container Placement Requirements
It is the customer’s responsibility to provide an accessible location for the container(s).  An accessible location means a location that provides the collection truck safe access to the container(s), provides adequate
clearance to a safety empty the container(s), and provides a safe exit route from the premises at all times.

Inadequate Service
The accumulation of solid waste in, on, or near a solid waste container in a manner that does not allow the lid to be completely closed constitutes inadequate service.  It is the owner’s or lessor’s obligation to ensure that tenants are provide with adequate service to properly dispose of their solid waste. 

How to Sign up for Service
The Commercial Solid Waste Division is entirely fee-for-service (user fee) based.  This service provides containerized municipal solid waste collection service to all Gainesville businesses, industries, and institutions, which do not receive service from Gainesville’s residential Collection Division.  The Solid Waste Division is the exclusive solid waste collection service provider in the City of Gainesville. 

Small Commercial Service Customers
General Services Department has available 96-gallon carts for once a week pickup.  This program is for the consumer that has a small amount of refuse.  These are also used for any leasing apartments in the immediate downtown area.  To request additional information regarding our cart service, please call the office General Services Department at (940)668-4551.
