Health Code Requirements for Restaurants

  1. All food establishments shall be located in an appropriate Zoning District as allowed by the City of Gainesville Zoning Ordinance.
      
  2. All food establishments operating in the City of Gainesville shall comply with all local and state regulations pertaining to this type of use.

  3. All new and remodeled food establishments shall comply with the requirements set forth by the City of Gainesville Health Official and with any related Technical Codes as adopted by the City Council of the City of Gainesville, Texas.

  4. New and remodeled restaurants shall submit a minimum of five (5) sets of plans and specifications with their permit application.  Plan review may take as much as two weeks.

  5. No restaurant or food establishment shall open for business without first having been issued a valid Health Permit and a Certificate of Occupancy. Training classes and food Handlers Certificates are also required for all personnel working in the restaurant.

  6. Transportable or mobile food establishments shall be inspected and permitted by the Health Official and the Building Official.  Paragraph 5 above shall apply in all cases.

  7. All new and remodeled food establishments shall comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
